The Elliott Lasser Society brings together alumni, faculty, and trainees who have shaped and continue to shape the Department of Radiology at UC San Diego.
Named in honor of Elliott Lasser, MD, this society is dedicated to fostering lifelong connections through mentorship, shared history and continued advancement in imaging.
About Elliott Lasser
Elliott Lasser, MD, made profound contributions to UC San Diego, the San Diego community, and the medical field at large. When UC San Diego opened its campus in 1968, Lasser was appointed as the Department of Radiology's inaugural chair. In building the department, he attracted top faculty from across the nation, laying the foundation for excellence.
More importantly, Lasser reshaped the future of the new medical school by persuading the regents to grant UC San Diego four-year accreditation. Although initially reluctant due to the absence of an on-campus hospital, the regents were convinced by Lasser’s vision to use Hillcrest Hospital as the primary teaching facility until a campus hospital could be established. His leadership set UC San Diego on a path toward medical distinction.
