A. Normal Operational Hours: Monday through Friday: 7:30 AM to 6 PM

B. On-call Hours:

(1) Saturday and Sunday: 8 AM to 6 PM. On-call from home.

(2) Weekdays - 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

(3) Specific indication for on-call ultrasound is a high likelihood of: - Carotid ultrasound for stroke code to be ordered by the Stroke Code Fellow/Attending only - Carotid ultrasound for acute TIA symptoms to be ordered by the on-call Neurology Attending only - Post –procedural pseudo-aneurysm - Biliary tract disease (CT scan to be performed first) - Tubo-ovarian abscess

(4) Specific indication for emergent ultrasound (6 PM to 8 AM need external services consult) is a high likelihood of: - Testicular torsion - Ovarian torsion - Ectopic pregnancy - DVT (Emergent US for DVT will only be done when D-dimer assay is above 0.62 ug FEU/ml; exceptions require consultation between patient’s attending physician and radiology attending if there is a contraindication to initiation of anticoagulation therapy ).

(5) No on-call ultrasound tech is available overnight. If there is an emergent ultrasound that needs to be performed at the VA (i.e. test/ovarian torsion, r/o ectopic, organ transplant), these patients are NOT to be sent to Thorton or Hillcrest.   Our policy as deemed by our Body Imaging Division is that the VA clinician should contact the VA case coordinator to arrange to have these patients sent out to the community.

(6) No tech on call on holidays.
