US is available at both sites after hours if indication is emergent (see below).

EMERGENT INDICATIONS
These studies to be performed emergently from the ED including after hours (US tech will be called in)

- Ectopic Pregnancy evaluation
- Ovarian Torsion evaluation
- Testicular Torsion evaluation
- Evaluation of Transplant for rejection (renal, liver)
- DVT evaluation IF pt has cancer or contraindication to anticoagulation
- Emergent carotid imaging if CT angiogram contraindicated
- AAA evaluation if too unstable for other imaging (and imaging indicated)
- Placenta previa/abruption evaluation

URGENT INDICATIONS
These studies can be delayed or scheduled for next day/morning

- Gallbladder evaluation (consider CT scan as alternative emergently)
- DVT evaluation
- Other non-emergent indications

This list serves as a guideline and not a substitute for clinical judgment.

Any issues regarding the need for US in ED patients should be discussed with the on duty ED attending and on call US attending.

The call schedules with pager numbers for both the Hillcrest and Thorton sonographers will be posted on the door of the main US room in Hillcrest.
