Dr. O’Boyle received her M.D. degree from the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey-New Jersey Medical School. She did her internship in Pediatrics at Boston City Hospital and radiology residency at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia. Her fellowship was in Body Imaging (US/CT/MR) at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia.
Dr. O’Boyle was appointed Chief of the Division of Body Imaging in 2006. She has been chief of Ultrasound at UCSD since 1999 and was past chief of Ultrasound at the VAMC in La Jolla. She is a Fellow of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine. She interprets and enjoys all aspects of Body Imaging including: ultrasound, CT, MR and GI/GU.
Dr. O’Boyle’s major interests are in clinical excellence and education. She is a two-time recipient of the Silver Spoon Award in Radiology at UCSD, 1995 and 2008. She mentors many medical students in addition to residents and fellows. She is director of the Body Imaging Fellowship and also the medical director of the sonographer training program at UCSD. She is an oral board examiner for the American Board of Radiology and had been on the ABR’s written boards task force in the past. Dr. O’Boyle is active in many UCSD committees including the Core Curriculum Committee for the medical school.
Dr. O’Boyle’s research interests lie primarily in ultrasound including: obstetrics/gynecology, breast (computer-aided diagnosis), neonatal neurosonography and vascular imaging but she is also involved in research in MR imaging of liver disease.
