Experience:
Dolores H. Pretorius, M.D., F.A.C.R., F.A.I.U.M., F.S.R.U is Director of Imaging at the UCSD Center for Fetal Care and Genetics in La Jolla and a Professor of Radiology at the University of California, San Diego. Dr. Pretorius was elected a member of the Academy of Clinician Scholars on the Radiology Faculty at UCSD Medical Center. She has conducted research and published over 175 articles and four textbooks, predominately involving fetal ultrasound and 3D/4D ultrasound imaging. She has had more then 10 interviews on 3D/4D ultrasound with several TV networks including ABC, NBC, CBS, and the Discovery Channel. She has worked with Dr. Thomas Nelson at UCSD for the last 18 years to pioneer research in the field of 3D/4D Ultrasound Imaging. She has been an invited speaker of international fame and is active serving on committees in American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM), American College of Radiology and several other professional organizations. She is a reviewer for over 10 medical journals. Dr. Pretorius received the 3D Ultrasound Pioneer Honor at the 2nd World Congress on 3D Ultrasound in 1999. She currently is serving on the AIUM List of Experts, Vasa Previa Foundation Medical Advisory Board and the Advisory Editorial Board for the Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine.
Dr. Pretorius practices radiology but specializes in ultrasound at two institutions, UCSD Medical Center Hillcrest and UCSD Thornton Hospital. She is known nationally and internationally for clinical work and research in fetal ultrasound and 3D/4D ultrasound. She is the Director of Visiting 3D/4D Fellowship for Physicians and Sonographers at UCSD.
