PET imaging is a diagnostic imaging procedure used to visualize metabolically active tissues based on molecular processes. The positrons are detected by the PET scanner and fused with CT images to generate PET-CT images for diagnosis and to guide subsequent treatment.

PET provides physicians with specific information about the function of organs and cells within your body that are unattainable through any other available imaging techniques. The PET scan also can uncover disease that may otherwise go undetected.

Common Applications of PET

  • Early diagnosis of cancer, heart disease, epilepsy, Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease, and other dementias
  • Accurately assessing the location and stage of malignant disease
  • Non-invasively monitoring the effects of treatment
  • Replacing multiple medical testing procedures with a single exam
  • Reducing or eliminating ineffective and unnecessary treatment

To schedule an appointment for a PET scan, call (858) 373-2860.
