The Department of Radiology at University of California, San Diego is offering a year fellowship in cardiothoracic radiology. This position entails exposure to a wide array of imaging studies generated by three hospitals: UCSD Medical Center- Hillcrest; UCSD Medical Center- Thornton Hospital and VA San Diego Health Care System and offers comprehensive training in cardiothoracic imaging. State of the art equipment is available, including PACS, digital and computed radiography, three multislice CT scanners, PET imaging and echo planar MR scanners. In conjunction with the UCSD functional MR center, access to 3T and 7T magnets is available. A dedicated cardiac MR scanner is on order. A large and varied patient population assures a wealth of clinical experience. The faculty consists of four dedicated cardiothoracic radiologists with interests in both general and cardiac radiology. Three are members of the STR and one is a member of the Fleischner Society. Excellent research opportunities are the strong points of the fellowship. Research in cardiac MR and functional pulmonary imaging is ongoing. Daily interaction with the pulmonary and cardiothoracic surgery service is an important source of training. UCSD boasts very active cardiac and pulmonary transplant service as well as the busiest center for chronic pulmonary thromboembolic surgery in the world. University Hospital is a designated Level 1 trauma center. Potential candidates must be Board-eligible by the American Board of Radiology and must have a valid California Medical License.
