University of California, San Diego, Breast Imaging Fellowship Salary: Currently, the fellowship is unfunded and may not be offered every year. There may be various types of salary support such as call coverage during the year or occasional research funding, however these would be by special arrangement on an individual basis. The Breast Imaging section at University of California, San Diego offers only 6 or 12 month fellowships. The fellow candidates must have completed a radiology residency and must obtain a California medical license before starting the program. The fellowship provides training in all aspects of breast imaging and interventional procedures. In addition, there is exposure to numerous on going clinical research trials including; MRgFUS ablation, whole breast tomographic US, optical breast imaging, breast CT and breast US CAD. The fellowship can be combined with other modalities during the year such as Body or Chest. The UCSD Breast Imaging Section is a state-of-the-art center that performs over 20,000 examinations each year, involving digital mammographic screening and diagnostic mammography, ultrasound, MRI and interventional procedures. Diagnostic radiology residents rotate on the service on a monthly basis. Each day fellows are actively involved in interpreting breast imaging studies and performing interventional procedures. In addition, fellows are responsible for the clinical follow-up necessary for proper correlation of the results of the diagnostic studies and biopsies. Fellows are supervised by the faculty members of the Division Breast Imaging in the Department of Radiology. Those faculty members are Drs. Olson, Comstock, Blickenstaff and Ojeda. Fellows attend weekly interdisciplinary breast cancer conferences In addition; the fellows interact on a daily basis with referring physicians and surgeons in regards to patient work-up, management and follow-up. We believe we offer valuable exposure and training in all aspect of Breast Imaging, with a balanced program devoted to clinical, teaching, and research activities. We are committed to the training of Breast imaging radiologists.
